The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network was founded in 1999 as a small, nonprofit patient-based advocacy organization. Since then, it has grown to be a national organization dedicated to patients and families faced with the challenges of pancreatic cancer. The organizationís mission is to create hope in a comprehensive way through research, patient support, community outreach and advocacy for a cure. Their goal is to double the pancreatic cancer survival rate by 2020. The PancreasCare team strongly supports the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and its mission.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Detroit Affiliate

Thirty five people in a church basement in February of 2007 established the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Detroit affiliate. Led by Gael Sandoval, the group has grown to over 300 members. This group is responsible for supporting and furthering the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network mission in our area. They host the organization's signature event, PurpleStride Detroit, as well as many education and outreach efforts. They are also strong supporters of Pancreatic Cancer Advocacy Day, and represent the Detroit area in Washington, DC each May to advocate on behalf of pancreatic cancer patients and families. We have been part of the local affiliate since it began in 2007 and will continue to actively participate in their important activities.
